Snoring and adenoids in children

Persistent snoring and mouth breathing suggest upper airway obstruction. The most common cause is adenoid hypertrophy.

Consequences

Facial/dental changes, attention problems, poor school performance, bedwetting; sleep apnea requires urgent ENT evaluation.

Treatment

Endoscopy is the preferred diagnostic method. Persistent obstruction is treated surgically under general anesthesia (about 15–30 minutes). There is no absolute age limit for adenoidectomy.
